what erin says about her art
an interview with erin
jack: how would you describe your art?
erin: “i play with paint, and it turns out cool sometimes.”
what defines your style as an artist would you say?
“i pull colors that excite me.”
does the art have a deeper symbolic or implied meaning?
“some people say it looks like flowers or water, but to me it always changes. it doesn’t look like anything, but it could be anything. whatever you want it to be!”
do you have an image in your mind when you start or does it develop as you go?
“i don’t go in with any expectations. i just go with it, experiment with it, play with it.”
what is it like making your own art?
“it’s a roller coaster, sometimes it's beautiful, sometimes it’s trash. sometimes it’s a puzzle like, i used the same paint, how did this happen?”
okay, so let’s get very technical here, what...is it?
“acrylic-based paint + additives + praying to the art gods.”
alright, and what about the finishing process?
“it is finished with either low gloss varnish for a rough, unpolished “studio look,” finished with a high gloss varnish for a nice “furnished look” (this is living room quality),or finished with resin for a real clean “gallery look” - this is a nice showy piece - though it is really all about preference I’d say. art is art.”
tell me about your art background.
“in high school I started pencil drawing, doing calligraphy, did some painting, some digital art, then after college where i studied interior design i started collecting paint again and figured out blowing around paint with a straw turned into cool flowers, and the rest is what you see!”
are you having fun? remember, I’m not doing this anymore if it stops being fun for you or for me, okay?
“yeah! It’s very fun!”
good. i love you erin.
“okay! bye!”
